Special Permits for keeping invasive alien species
Permits referred to the EU Regulation on Invasive Alien Species
A special permit is required for the utilization of an alien species. The permit may only be granted for alien species included in the EU list of Invasive Alien Species in accordance with the Articles 8 and 9 in EU Regulation ((EU) No 1143/2014). The permits are issued by the authority Regional State Administrative Agency for Southern Finland and the permit application can be found also from the Suomi.fi portal.
Permits issued so far:
EU approval for the breeding of raccoon dogs for fur production in accordance with Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council
The Decision of European Commission (in Finnish) granting an authorisation to Finland to issue permits for the farming of raccoon dogs for production of fur in accordance with Regulation (EU) No 1143/2014 of the European Parliament and of the Council, 7th November 2018.

- 17.11.2021 Finnish Museum of Natural History Luomus (Milkweed Asclepias syriaca, tree of heaven Ailanthus altissima) (Permit valid until November 17th 2031).
- 7.4.2021 Arboretum Mustila (American skunk cabbage Lysichiton americanus), (Permit valid until April 7th 2031).
